About Wes
Scientific Software Engineer | C++ OpenGL Web
I'm a full-stack scientific software engineer with 18 years of programming experience building software across web, enterprise, games, and scientific computing.
For the past 8 years, I've focused primarily on scientific and engineering software—from emergency management and atmospheric dispersion modeling to building CAE systems, scientific visualization, numerical solvers, and interactive 2D/3D engineering tools from the ground up.
Before ever becoming a web developer, I always loved the idea of using simulations to advance research & development, but I didn't really know a lot about it. It wasn't until I landed a few web adjacent scientific software contracts that I started understanding the power of computational models, and I especially started imagining how far we can push them.
So, I decided to bring my full stack engineering skills to the computational engineering world, and the extropian ecosystem was born.
Areas of expertise
Interactive scientific software
Interactive 2D and 3D tools that help engineers explore results, compare designs, and adjust parameters.
Modernization
Modernizing validated scientific software — easier to maintain, extend, deploy, and commercialize without replacing proven models.
Simulation workflows
Software around models and solvers: clean APIs, connected components, automated setup and post-processing.
GPU compute & rendering
Real-time GPU pipelines, from low-level graphics programming to physics simulation built for GPU workloads.
Product development
Building and stewarding products over years — architecture, deployment infrastructure, and client-specific customization.
AI & optimization
Optimization systems and generative-AI-driven design built around engineering domain knowledge.
Primary technology
Technology I specialize in and use regularly.
Secondary technology
Technology I've used over my career and still comfortable with.
